Send times for journey emails

The time that a journey email is sent depends on the type of journey and the time zone set in your account. Below, we explain how send times work for different types of journeys.

Date-triggered journeys

By default, journeys using a date-based trigger send emails at midnight in the time zone set in your account. In most cases this is not a practical time for recipients to receive emails, so you can adjust it by adding a delay step. For example, add a delay of seven hours to send the email at 7am, or 13 hours for 1pm.

Subscriber joins the list

This is only relevant if you're sending more than one email in a "subscriber joins the list" journey and there's a delay of one day or longer between each email in the series.

When someone subscribes to your list, the time that they submit the form becomes their send time for the remainder of the emails in the journey. For example, if someone signs up at 4:29pm, and triggers a journey, all emails in that journey will be sent to that subscriber at 4:29pm.

Online store actions

Emails in journeys that trigger based on store actions will be sent relative to the time a customer makes a purchase or abandons their cart, and the emails are positioned in your journey.

An Order Paid journey will trigger as soon as your store shares the event via the e-commerce integration. An Abandoned Cart journey will trigger 60 minutes after a customer abandons their cart.

When someone enters or exits a segment

When a journey is set up to check for someone entering or exiting a segment, segment membership is checked every 10 minutes. Emails are sent when a change is detected. Therefore there may be a delay of up to 10 minutes before the email is sent to a subscriber.

For new journey emails with a segment-based trigger, there is a short delay before we start monitoring subscribers entering or exiting the segment. This means that a subscriber that enters or exits a segment in the first 10 minutes might not receive the email. Please wait 10 minutes before testing your journey.
