Changes not saving in emails

There are certain situations where changes you make to an email are not reflected in a preview, or when an email is sent.

Email builder

The email builder saves automatically as you edit your email, to ensure you don't lose progress. When you are previewing changes, sometimes it takes a few seconds for the preview to update to the latest version.

There are certain situations, however, where an older version will be shown, or you will see changes different to those you made. This could be caused by:

  • the email builder being open in more than one location, such as multiple browser tabs on your computer, or when someone else is editing the same email at the same time on a different computer.
  • the email builder being left open and inactive for a long time before resuming editing, so the session expires.
  • your internet connection dropping out.

When using the email builder, make sure it's only open in one place at a time. If you plan to return to a design later, exit the email builder, and reopen it when you're ready to edit again.

Journey emails

When editing the content of an journey email in the email builder, any changes you make are saved as a draft. To keep your draft to work on later, click Return at the top left of the email builder. If you edit the email later, the draft will load.

To publish your changes and replace the current journey email:

  1. Click Automation.
  2. Click the name of the journey you want to update.
  3. Click the email step you want to update in the journey designer, then click Edit email content in the settings panel.
  4. Make your changes, then click Preview, then save.
  5. Click Save & return to journey.

The thumbnail image for the email step will update in the journey designer, to show that your new version has been published.
