Reporting accuracy

While email marketing enables us to track many things, it does have limitations which prevent us from reporting some metrics with 100% accuracy. This is the same no matter which ESP you work with.

It's not possible to precisely report, for example, how many subscribers successfully receive your email, as not all recipient email servers send non-delivery bounce notices. Some recipients may also have their own spam filters or email rules set up, which can prevent your email from reaching their inbox. We can, however, tell you exactly how many emails were sent from our servers, and which addresses did return bounce notices.

It's also not possible to report a completely accurate number of opens, as some email clients and recipient email servers strip out the tracking code that provides this data. Opens for plain text emails can't be tracked at all.

Therefore, instead of absolute numbers it's more useful to look at trends, like open rate over time. To get started, use our insights feature to get the numbers for each time period you need. Then, check the trend — are things improving, staying the same, or getting worse? After a trend is established, you can then adjust your marketing strategy to fit.
